(applause) ... >> my name is byron webb. i'm a development director with the port and i want to welcome to heron park. it was built in the wetlands in the bay view community adjacent to the indian basin. it is approximately 22-acres and we are here to celebrate the expansion of the wetlands and also the creation of the first bidirectional bike way in the city and in this neighborhood. with that brief introduction -- the reason that we're here i wanted to introduce the mayor and have him speak to these two important projects for this bay view community. that in the talking points. through the denser parts of san francisco, as someone who doesn't have a car i have and millions of us have wasted countless hours trying to get through our downtown corridor but i want to take a moment to thank the most important folks who are not here with us and that is the people of san francisco. for years before i joined the board of supervisors i served on with many volunteers the community advisory group to the central subway. with countless volunteers from the bay view, from visitation valley, from mission bay, south of market, union square, and of course thousands of residents and leaders from chinatown who went to countless public meetings provided tens of thousands of signatures, and stood for years to work extremely hard for world class transportation into the heart of our city, but we know we are building the central subway not just based on our history but for our future. by the year 2040 we will have 100,000 new households and 200,000 new workers and thousands of new daily car trips. we have to prepare for the future. let me close with a couple o

see traffic moving okay into san francisco. no delays there right now. and a check on the south bay right now, so far, so good northbound 101, 280 also looking good as well as guadalupe parkway. that's a look at traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. developing news from the southland where cal state fullerton will have classes again today. the campus was locked down for eight hours after a suspect ran to the school following a police chase. the suspect was never found but the lockdown was lifted just before midnight. they were wanted for robbery and shooting from a jewelry store chased through three counties before crashing near the fullerton campus. three suspects were arrested, two still at large. one of them ran into a baseball diamond where the los angeles police chief was at a toy giveaway. that suspect brought dozens of officers there and he surrendered as you can see here. >>> there are some things you should not post online, a lot of stuff. this is one of them. cbs 5 reporter elizabeth wenger is in san francisco with the story of a video that has a police sergeant in hot
. >>> was it a playful planing or playful prank? a san francisco sergeant at first claimed responsibility for a high-speed joyride through a tunnel in town. elizabeth wenger reports. >> reporter: the video is astonishing. he is changing his story but the first question is why. why would a san francisco cop post this on facebook to begin with? the video shows a driver at larkin and zooming top speeds. check this out. that clip was posted on sergeant carl t's facebook page in september. it appears to show him driving 100 miles per hour in the lamborghini through the broadway tunnel in seconds. there is no way to actually identify who is driving. in the comments section of his facebook page he bragged, we were all drunk. some people were surprised who saw the videos. others say since there were no other cars around, no harm, no foul. >> definitely safe. >> is he going to lose his job? that's reckless. >> he only took advantage of it because he is a cop. >> he probably would want to do it differently or not at all. >> reporter: the officer is changing his story. he told a weekly newspaper he wasn't driv

. this will create a north-south connection that serves the eastern edge of san francisco, connecting important neighborhoods and communities. the north beach business association, we have over 80 members in north beach would like to add a few more comments, which is, we would like to see the excavation in a new station at pagoda palace, but we want to make it clear that we do not support this idea if it involves any spot zoning that would allow the owner to build higher than the 58 feet which is currently permitted as a maximum height allowed at that site. we also want to state that any other possible location for a station would need to be chosen only up to the entire community was involved and exhaustively vetted sites. needless to say we would oppose [speaker not understood] washington square park in any way as a location for any station or the staging for a station in another location. . >>> okay, thank you very much. i have been a tour guide in san francisco for the last 15 years. i am a member of the san francisco tour guide guild, but i'm not speaking on their behalf because we are all independent. however, i had done walking tours in north beach, so, i'm familiar with that and they've been my most successful people. love the area. as a matter of fact, [speaker not understood] has been a lovely stop there. but i haven't gone through that neighborhood, but i can imagine what she's going through. whenever you open a magazine and the san francisco travel is promoting the city, they're promoting all our neighborhoods. i also conduct tours for folks in motor coach to get from one side of the city to the other. please keep in mind that columbus avenue is a major artery. when i take us around the city and i need to move around in three hours so they can go on to something else, or four, that i simply cannot afford to eliminate all of north beach and hie because my only route is columbus avenue, unless i go by van ness. and particularly with the america's cup coming in, w
families year in san francisco that live in these buildings. the way that the sro collaborative first started back in the 1990s, there was a rash of serious building fires. it affected sro buildings in the communities around. back as we heard earlier, a lot of these buildings were constructed soon after the 1906 earthquake, old housing stock. a lot of deferred maintenance. a lot were built before some of the more stringent housing codes were adopted. there are a lot of challenges to these buildings that exist. they are older; they were built at a time when they were small, even the hallways are small. back to the fire. sro collaborative were established as a response to these fires. focus on organizing the tenants and trying to come up with solutions to keep fires like this from happening. one of the main things that happened that people may be familiar with is the sprinkler ordinance. in san francisco a hotel room with more than 20 rooms is required have a comprehensive spritzer system in the rooms and throughout the building, and dramatically decreased the prevalence of f

, my name is jorge potio, a lifetime resident of san francisco and i want to start by recognizing the hard work that has been put into the legislation. to those affects and to those who are supporting the people affected by this issue, really, it's serving as kind of a buffer to what could have been a real crisis. as a housing rights advocate for the mission collaborative for the past five years and a friend of many people who have had bed bugs i have wintered firsthand the devastating affects on lives. and so i can really appreciate this a[pro-rb/] and thank you to the working group that put this together. it puts in place procedures and policies that make it easier for housing advocates and tenant communitis to navigate this process, but we know we can put what we like on paper and promise to follow it to the best our abilitis and commit to the law whenever necessary, but unless fund exists to support this work, what we say what we commit to is different than what we can do. many of those severely affected by this issue represent some of the more marginalized and disenfranch
joined the board of supervisors was to call a hearing on bedbugs in the city and county of san francisco. prior to that hearing actually a group of many of our residents from neighborhoods, chinatown and south of market and the tenderloin had been convening meetings fore over a year to discuss what we could do about the citywide epidemic that has been plaguing our neighborhoods. through the work group this legislation came forwards a series of recommendations on what we could do to better abate bedbugs and the bedbug abatement issue here in san francisco. this legislation will address three primary issues. the first of course is to actually collect data on bedbug abatement. so to require pest control operators to report to the department of public health on bedbug abatements and to have disclosures and create better information by the city and county of san francisco for tenants, our operators and for our property owners. so i wanted to call up two individuals who have been working very steadily on this project. mr. vining and miss chung.
